At Caloorie, we attach great importance to your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how your personal data is collected, used, shared and protected when you use the Caloorie mobile application, website and related services (collectively, the “Services”).
By using our Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
In short
- We never sell your personal data.
- Meal photos and meal descriptions are sent to an AI service only to analyse your meal. Caloorie does not store your photos.
- You can delete your account and data at any time — see how.
- Questions? Write to info@caloorie.com.
1. Data we collect
We collect various types of information to provide and improve our application and services for you.
a. Information you provide
- Account information: your first name, last name, email address and password. Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider (Firebase Authentication) and are never visible to us. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google; we never see your Google password.
- Profile and health data: physical and nutritional data such as your height, weight, age, gender, activity level, dietary preferences, weight goals and the food/calories you consume.
- Meal photos and descriptions: photos you take or choose from your gallery, and meal descriptions you type or dictate, so that the meal can be analysed (see section 3).
- Contact information: messages and details you share when contacting customer support.
b. Information collected automatically
- Device information: device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers and mobile network information.
- Usage data: how you interact with the app, pages visited, time spent, click data and crash logs.
- Location information: your approximate location (via IP address), depending on your device settings.
c. Device permissions
- Camera: used only when you choose to take a meal photo.
- Microphone and speech recognition: used only when you choose voice input. Your speech is converted to text by your device’s built-in speech recognition service (on Android, usually provided by Google). Caloorie receives only the resulting text; we do not record or store audio.
- Notifications: used to show reminders and motivational messages on your device. You can turn them off at any time in your device settings.
2. How we use your data
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Providing and maintaining the Service: to create your account, calculate your calorie and nutrition tracking, and provide personalised dietary recommendations tailored to your goals.
- Improvement and development: to analyse the user experience, fix bugs and add new features to Caloorie.
- Communication: to send you updates, security alerts, support messages and (if you have given consent) marketing notifications.
- Security: to detect and prevent fraud, unauthorised access and illegal activities.
3. Who we share your data with
We never sell your personal data to third parties. However, we may share your information in the following situations:
- Service providers: with trusted third-party service providers that support our operations, such as server hosting (Google Cloud), data analysis (Google Analytics), customer support and email delivery.
- AI analysis (Google Gemini): to analyse your meals, Caloorie sends your meal photo or meal description to Google’s Gemini AI service through our own servers. For meal suggestions, motivational messages and AI reports, relevant data from your profile and logs (for example your goals and recent intake) is sent as well. Google processes this data on our behalf only to return the analysis. Under Google’s terms for the paid Gemini API, this data is not used to train Google’s models; Google may keep it for a limited period to detect abuse.
- Payments and subscriptions: purchases are processed by Google Play (and, once available, the Apple App Store). We never receive your card details. We use RevenueCat to manage your subscription status; it receives a user identifier and your purchase records.
- Legal requirements: when required to comply with a valid court order, legal process or lawful requests from public authorities.
- Business transfers: in the event of a merger, acquisition or sale of Caloorie’s assets, your data may be transferred to the new owners.
4. Data security
The security of your data is our priority. We use industry-standard security measures (encryption, secure connections, etc.) to protect your personal and health data against unauthorised access, alteration or destruction. However, please remember that no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
5. Your rights
Under applicable data protection laws (such as KVKK and GDPR), you have the following rights:
- To access and request a copy of your personal data.
- To request the correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- To request the permanent deletion of your account and all related data.
- To object to, or request the restriction of, data processing.
- To withdraw your consent for marketing communications at any time.
To exercise these rights, contact us at info@caloorie.com.
6. Data retention
We retain your personal and health data for as long as your account remains active, in order to provide you with continuous calorie tracking, personalised recommendations and historical statistics.
Meal photos are not retained. They are processed only to analyse your meal. When you save a meal, only the analysis result (food names and nutrition values) is stored in your history.
When your account deletion request is approved:
- Permanently deleted data: personal information such as your name, surname and email address; your calorie history, diet logs, consumption data, weight records, goals and analysis results are completely and irreversibly deleted from our systems.
- Temporarily retained / anonymised data: billing and subscription transaction records are stored in our secure systems solely for the legally required retention periods (typically 5 to 10 years, depending on applicable law), and are never used for marketing or operational purposes. Crash reports and analytical data used to improve app performance may continue to be retained in a fully anonymised form that cannot be linked back to any individual user.
- Free-trial record: to prevent repeated use of the free trial, we keep your email address and the date you first signed up. This record contains no other information and is used for no other purpose.
Following your account deletion request, all data other than the records listed above is completely cleared from our servers within 30 days at the latest.
You can delete your account and associated data in the app (open your profile and tap DELETE ACCOUNT), by contacting us at info@caloorie.com if you no longer have access to the app, or by following the instructions on our account deletion page.
7. Children’s privacy
Caloorie is not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, we will immediately delete such information from our systems.
8. Cookies and tracking technologies
Our application and website may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to improve your experience and remember your preferences. You can set your device to refuse cookies or to tell you when a cookie is being sent; however, some features of the application may then not work properly.
9. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you by posting a notice in the application or by sending an email to your registered email address. Your continued use of the Services after the updates are made constitutes your acceptance of the new policy.
